History of Camper
& Recreation
"Working with tent
campers since 1957." ...
The original pop-up
camper developed by Clyde Grambsch in 1954 is displayed in the RV/MH Heritage
Foundation Museum in Elkhart, Indiana.
White text under the
right tail light reads, "Mfg. by Loyal Trailer Co., Loyal,

The Big
Joke.
Our
experience with popups actually began in 1954, when Clyde Grambsch designed and
built a camper for use on family trips. He incorporated some unique features
such as a screen door and steps (unusual on a tent camper in
1954).
When Clyde
had the camper repainted to match his new '56 Ford, the painter (as a joke)
printed "Mfg. by Loyal Trailer Co, Loyal, Wis." under the
taillight.
A Big
Response.
A few weeks
after the Grambsch family's next camping trip, the Loyal Post Office began
receiving inquiries addressed to Loyal Trailer Co. Clyde realized his
innovations had a broad appeal, so in the fall of 1957, he began E-Z Kamper,
Inc.
And Now
We're the Biggest and Best!
In
1973, Clyde incorporated Camper and Recreation, Inc. - Canvas Replacements and a
few years later, bought out his partners shifting the company focus to
supplying replacement canvas for popup campers.
Today, we
have grown to be the largest and most respected manufacturer and supplier
of replacement canvas for the entire pop-up camper industry.
Every brand and model is handled by Camper & Recreation back to the
very earliest manufacturers of pop-up campers.
Over
the years, Canvas Replacements expanded their product line to include all
major lift systems and became the exclusive manufacturer of the only
Universal Lift-Kit system for pop-ups in 1991. Our product
listing now incorporates just about everything you need to enhance your camping
experience including a full line of awnings, mattresses and cushions, as well as
all the cleaning and care products to keep your canvas camper looking its best
(and lasting longer, too!).
